We just completed our internal certification of the Ubiquiti Edgerouter-Lite 3 router for home office and small business deployments. It's a solid edge router with great traffic shaping capabilities for voice and other traffic types at a reasonable price point.
Much of our work centered on stress-testing the router to prioritize voice traffic over data in broadband networks where the downstream traffic is greater than the upstream. Ascertaining that firewall and traffic shaping rules are configured correctly for voice while giving equal access to other traffic types can be expensive to resolve when voice quality issues appear in the field.
Simulating the small business network in the lab with load-generating applications and validating the traffic shaping impact on voice and data applications improves the customer experience when new systems are first deployed.
