On Thursday July 18, 2019, Peter Krautle of Louisa Voice joined other members of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce in a teambuilding exercise to assemble bicycles for 5 children with cancer. The children were selected by the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund – Tom Couglin is the former head coach of the New York Giants and is now an executive with the Jacksonville Jaguars football team. More information on the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund can be found here https://tcjayfund.org/about/.
Our team assembled a bicycle and presented it to Carly, a three-year girl who came with her family – seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces was priceless. Sue Garbe, the program manager for the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund, mentioned to everyone that having a child with cancer is difficult for the family with the doctors’ visits, hospitalization, medications, and not feeling well. There is an old proverb that ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ – the gift of 5 bicycles helped the children and their families enjoy the support from the Meadowlands ‘Village’ and put aside (even for a moment) the stresses of daily life. Great event!
